Opec Reference Basket Components

(Source: OPEC)

OPEC Reference Basket (ORB) corresponds to:

Algeria: Saharan Blend, Congo: Djeno , Equatorial Guinea: Zafiro, Gabon: Rabi Light , IR Iran: Iran Heavy , Iraq: Basrah Light/Medium (As of 2022, ORB based on Basrah Medium, before Basrah Light) , Kuwait: Kuwait Export, Libya: Ess Sider, Nigeria: Bonny Light , Saudi Arabia: Arab Light , United Arab Emirates: Murban , Venezuela: Merey

OPEC Reference Basket (ORB) price was introduced on 1 January 1987. Up to 15 June 2005, it was the arithmetic average of seven selected crudes

Thereafter from 16th June 2005, the OPEC Reference Basket (ORB) price is calculated as a production-weighted average of the prices of crude oil blends from different OPEC member countries. This means that the price of each type of crude oil in the basket is multiplied by the amount of that oil produced, and these values are then added together and divided by the total production. OPEC adjusts the specific crudes included in the basket over time to keep it representative of the member states' production

Girassol (Angola), Oriente (Ecuador), Minas (Indonesia), Qatar Marine (Qatar) were part of the ORB, when those counties were part of OPEC

Prices in $/bbl

In 2024, Venezuela's Merey had the lowest year average price at $ 65.3/bbl (-$14.6/bbl w.r.t. ORB price of $79.9/bbl), while Equatorial Guinea's Zafiro and Nigeria's Bonny Light both had year-average price at $ 82.2/bbl (+$2.3/bbl w.r.t. ORB)
