MCP in Day Ahead Market (DAM)

The Day Ahead Market (DAM), which is a part of Integrated Day Ahead Market (I-DAM), is a physical electricity trading market which allows market participants to buy and sell electricity for the next day. The prices and quantum of electricity to be traded are determined through a double-sided closed auction bidding process
Any Buyers and Sellers who are grid connected entities and have valid standing clearance from respective SLDC/RLDC through NOAR (National Open Access Registry) can participate in DAM
We at K&A track and analyse slotwise prices and quantum of electricity to be traded. Presented below is a graph of Hourly Market Clearing Price (MCP) on the DAM market for the latest day. We update this information everyday
Below the graph, we have captured monthly summary in tabular form. Besides capturing Min/Max/Average for the month, the Table also captures what percent of times hourly DAM MCP was = Rs. 10/ KWh, down to >= Rs 1/ KWh. Rs. 10 / KWh is the current ceiling price
For FY 2025–26, DAM MCP was Rs 10/kWh for 8.9% of the time and ≥ Rs 7/kWh for 13.5% of the time
For FY 2024–25, the corresponding figures were 11.9% and 17.5%, respectively
We have found this analysis, especially the significant month-wise variation in percent of the times DAM MCP >= a threshold value of interest, quite useful for variety of strategic / tactical planning exercises

For 15-04-2026, the minimum MCP was 0.84 Rs/KWh, the maximum MCP was 10 Rs/KWh, and the average MCP was 5.9 Rs/KWh
