National Accounts Statistics (NAS)
The national accounts provide a comprehensive, conceptual and accounting framework for analyzing and evaluating the performance of an economy
The Central Statistics Office (CSO) of the Ministry of statistics and Programme Implementation annually publishes the National Accounts Statistics (NAS). This publication is the key source-material for all macroeconomic data of the country. It presents the estimates of National Product and its utilization in the form of consumption and capital formation; accounts of the public sector and consolidated accounts of the nation
It is possibly the most widely used data source in the country, both in the public and private domains
While the underlying concepts and methodology of compilation has been mostly standardized under the System of National Accounts (SNA) of the international agencies, procedures and approximations are shaped by the country-specific data collection system
For making the estimates comparable internationally and over time, the CSO maintains detailed, well documented methods and procedures unchanged till the revision of the base year
The current new series on National Accounts Statistics was introduced through a Press Release on January 30, 2015 with base year 2011-12 in place of previous series with base year 2004-05
