Non Major Ports: Commoditywise Traffic

India`s Major Ports handled total traffic of 819.3 million tons in 2023-24, while Non-Major Ports handled traffic of 723.6 million tonnes, for a total traffic at all Ports of 1,542.9 million tonnes

The Basic Port Statistics (BPS) document provides break up of traffic handled into the following principal commodities: POL (Crude & Products), Iron Ore, Building materials, Coal, Fertiliser / Fertiliser Raw Materials (FRM) and Others

Table below captures trend in Commodity-wise traffic handled by Non-Major Ports in India

For 2023-24, Non-Major Ports handled 163.9 million tonnes of POL (22.7%), 76.2 million tonnes of Iron Ore (10.5%), 9.9 million tonnes of Building Material (1.4%), 204.2 million tonnes of Coal (28.2%), 13.8 million tonnes of Fertiliser / Fertiliser Raw Materials (1.9%) and 255.6 million tonnes of Others (35.3%), for a total traffic at Non-Major Ports of 723.58 million tonnes

Since Ports handle a large number of commodities, share of "Others" is sizeable, besides the named commodities
