In India, Petrol and Diesel are outside the GST framework. Different states levy varying rates of Sales Tax / VAT on them. These rates are covered in our section State / UT wise Sales Tax / VAT Rates
At the end of our section Contribution to Exchequer: Central , we have covered retail selling price buildup of Rs 94.77/litre for petrol and Rs 87.67/litre for Diesel in Delhi
As a result of varying Sales Tax/VAT in different states, the retail selling prices also vary. Table below compares petrol prices in various states vs Rs 94.77/litre in Delhi, and Diesel prices in various states vs Rs 87.67/litre in Delhi
This Table also highlight the highest and lowest prices. As can be seen, there is a wide difference in prices of petrol, from a low of Rs 82.46/litre in Andaman & Nicobar Islands to a high of Rs 109.74/litre in Andhra Pradesh
Likewise there is a wide difference in prices of Diesel, from a low of Rs 78.05/litre in Andaman & Nicobar Islands to a high of Rs 97.57/litre in Andhra Pradesh
